A lot goes into a professional rug cleaning. You'll want to make sure that the company that you are dealing with has ARCS certified technicians working for them. This tells you that the people who will be cleaning your rug have the appropriate training to properly care for your rug.
All of our technicians perform a pre-inspection. We inspect the rug with you to determine if there are any stains, worn areas, or any other concerns you may have. We'll determine the rug type, fibres, etc. which makes a difference in how it should be cleaned. At that time, we'll be able to tell you how much it will cost for your rug cleaning.
The first step in most cleanings is our rug duster. The rug dusting machine beats the back of the rug with multiple levers to knock the embedded, non-soluble dirt out of the rug. Getting this type of dirt out of your rug is important because this dirt is like sandpaper and it damages the fibres of your rug. You cannot do this at home.
Once the rug has been dusted, we wash it. There are different types of washing processes and decisions to be made depending on the needs of the rug. This is where the training and experience become important. Most of the rugs we clean go through our Quadra jet machine. The technician controls the amount of water used, the level of brush agitation and what type of cleaning agents are used to get your rug really clean. We use an environmentally friendly, neutral soap solution and fresh water that leaves no residue on the rug. In some cases a rug may need to be totally submerged in water to flush out pet urine, or it may need to be dry cleaned if it's a delicate silk rug where water could damage the fibres or make the colours bleed. We may need to spot treat problem areas. Rugs can be a significant investment and you want the person cleaning your rug to have the knowledge and experience to do it right.
Another important step in the process is drying. Rugs made from natural fibres that take too long to dry can gather mould or mildew. We hang the rugs in a specially engineered dry room that is temperature and humidity controlled with precise air flow. This allows for faster drying and leaves the fibres softer and suppler.
All rugs are inspected after drying on our service floor. We vacuum and brush the nap, trim the fringe and roll it up ready for pick up or delivery. Some rugs that need repair will go to the repair department after cleaning.
